Fertility Specialist Perth
Fertility appointments are run a bit differently at Blossoming Vitality. This is due to the fact that it involves both partners and there is a set program in place.
Before you come to see me, I offer a 20min free telephone consultation so we can briefly discuss your case and see if we are a good fit for each other. I will tell you a bit more what is involved in the program, your time and money commitment required.
Infertility affects a growing number of couples and statistics show that at some point in their life, one in six couples in Australia will experience issues with conception. Infertility can be due to other conditions such as poor sperm quality, ovulation problems, cycle irregularities, endometriosis, PCOS and other hormonal problems. In many cases, infertility is labelled as “unexplained”. Thankfully, naturopathy really shines when it comes to these cases.
Research clearly demonstrates that environmental pollution, poor nutrient levels in soil and foods, polluted water, toxic farming methods, heavy metal exposure, poor diet, lack of exercise, and many other factors can significantly impact one’s fertility. Woman’s eggs and man’s sperm are particularly vulnerable to the effects of environmental toxins and generally poor health. This is why it is so important to address all these issues prior to trying to conceive a baby.
Naturopathic pre-conception care involves an overall health assessment of both partners, identifying and addressing any general health and reproductive issues, as well as lifestyle and environmental toxicity factors. This is achieved through detoxifying, taking fertility-enhancing nutrients and making specific dietary and lifestyle changes prior to starting to try to conceive. Your pre-conception protocol is expected to take around 3 months. This is largely due to the fact that it takes around 90 days for the final stages of egg development and 75 days for the final stages of sperm development.
Before your initial consultation, you will be asked to fill out a comprehensive questionnaire, which will help to identify your health status, nutritional intake, toxicity exposure, past history, as well as your fertility health history. In most cases, I will organise specialised functional testing if problems are suspected, such as salivary hormone testing, heavy metal and toxicity testing, sperm testing, cellular health testing, to name a few. I will also ask my female patients to track their cycles and ovulation. I may also refer you to other health professionals if necessary, such as acupuncturists and body workers to ensure you get a fully integrative approach.
Pre-conception care does not only apply to couples who have previously experienced issues with fertility. It is also advisable to all healthy couples who want to maximise their chances at a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. Couples who are undergoing IVF, GIFT and IUI procedures would also find benefit in natural therapies in order to improve their success rates.
